THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY OARDC PLANT AND ANIMAL AGROSECURITY RESEARCH FACILITY
VAA was the Primary Firm leading the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) team on this new $25 million, 27,537 gross-square-foot facility in Wooster, Ohio. It is the only facility of its kind in Ohio and one of two nationally with the capacity for animal research at biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) and biosafety level 3 Ag (BSL-3 Ag). The facility, which features a special airtight construction, includes two BSL-3 enhanced laboratories, four BSL-3 Ag animal isolation rooms large enough for cows and pigs, decontamination areas, offices, and associated areas required for research. This research will help reduce economic losses from diseases and pests by allowing proactive development of new treatments, vaccines, diagnostic tools, and genetically resistant animals.
